Innocent Life: A Futuristic Harvest Moon, (also known as Innocent Life: New Harvest MoonInnocent Life: Shin Bokujou Monogatari (JPN), Harvest Moon: Innocent Life) is aPlayStation Portable game that breaks many of the traditions established in the other Harvest Moon games and also for the game on PlayStation 2. It was released for the PlayStation Portable on April 27, 2006 in Japan and on May 15, 2007 in North America.

Gameplay

The game takes place on the relic-filled Heartflame Island which can be explored by walking or riding on a buggy. Players have the ability to explore the island's ruins and even visit a volcano. All these areas have their own terrain and is said to resemble a tropical paradise.

Aside from growing plants and raising livestock, you also have weekly requests from Volcano Town for help with a job or two (upon going to your Sunday appointments). Usually you would get some items or new tools for thanks.

Development

The game features a new art style that steps away from the traditional style of the previous Harvest Moon games. It focus more on solving a main storyline like traditional RPGs, rather than concentrating on farm works. The concept used in Innocent Life would be continued on the Rune Factory Series, which also involved ARPG battles. However, the removal of the marriage system in this installment also departs from any previous or later game in the Harvest Moon Series except for Harvest Moon: Save the Homeland.

Reception

Reviews of the title were mixed. 3 British sites scored the game at 80% or above[1], yet IGNrated the game at 6.5, or "passable", saying that the story develops slowly and the gameplay strays too far from Harvest Moon's traditional farming focus.[2] A PS2 version of the game titled Innocent Life: A Futuristic Harvest Moon - Special Edition has been released as well

Character

Detail:
Life (You)
This is you! You're the protagonist here. You're an android boy who was created by Professor Hope. "Innocent Life" is your model name---"Life," for short. You were created in the hopes that you would become more human, and learn the value of life.

Becky Branch

Becky is Lionel's sister. Unlike her brother, she's cheery and optimistic!

Big Banks
He's the big pink guy. Other information about his personality isn't known yet.

Bobby
Not much is known about this one yet. He's a teacher at Volcano school.

Charles Grimly
The mayor's son. He works with his father.

Chuck Grimly
He's the mayor of Volcano Town. He lives with his son, Charles, in a big house near the lighthouse.

Dorothy Grimley
The Mayor's wife. She's the one with blond hair and white clothes.

Gayak
Dr. Gayak is a close friend of Professor Hope. This guy is like your "trainer." He'll teach you how to run the farm, sell crops, etc. He's Marcia's grandfather and Marlene's husband. He runs a small farm on the south of Volcano Town.

Dr. Glane
Also known as Professor Hope, lives in the South of Volcano Town, and invents agricultural machinery. He's the scientist. He's also your father! Yep, that's right. He's the one who creates you and brings you to life. He wants for you to become truly human, to learn the value of life. Easter Ruins is that nice piece of land he bought for you to work on. His parents are dead; they rest in a tomb next to his house.

Emma Cossack
Emma lives inside the Liberta Winery, selling wine---to adults, of course! She is Jean's wife.

Fisherman
He lives in the desert. He loves fishing, and has always dreamed of having a friend who shares his passion. He has one general rule, however: always put the fish back in the water after you catch them!

Franco
He's an old man living in Eastern Ruins in the West. He knows a lot about the island's history, and may tell you some of it if you ask (e.g., the war between the Volcano and Easter people and the spirit's power). He looks after you and tries to make sure everything is okay. He believes in you and has faith you'll be able to restore the town!

Gallion
He's Masami's husband. He's really only interested in eating.

Jean Cossack
He owns the Liberta Winery.

Jonathan Branch
Jonathan works on Branch Farm and takes care of the animals, so he'll be able to tell you a lot of information about raising animals on your farm. The farm he runs is one of those modern automatic types.

Liberta
Not much is known about this one yet. He's the man in black clothes who always wears the black derby.

Lionel Branch
This guy's really negative and pessimistic. He doesn't believe in you, and says that you should give up because he thinks no one can bring life back to the land.

Lucia Banks
Not much is known about this one yet. She's the old lady with grey hair and purple clothes.

Marcia
Marcia lives with her grandparents, Gayak and Marlene. She likes you a lot and is very interested in helping you out with your new life.

Marco Banks
Not much is known about this guy yet---he's makes a lot of mistakes, though.

Marlene
This is Gayak's wife. She's a good cook.

Masami
Masami runs a bar next to Shop-a-Million. She works late a lot, and cooks for her husband.

Max
This guy's a teacher at Volcano School. He's very big and strong, which would explain why he teaches phys. ed.! You'll see him exercising a lot.

Million
He runs the Shop-a-Million store in Volcano Town. He's very positive and helpful; he's the one who shows you around town. Sell your crops to him.

Moonlight
Moonlight lives in Easter Ruins in the East. He's the one who's always sleepy (in the day, at least)! This guy may come off as a little strange or suspicious, and people don't really trust him. He's an artist. He's very creative, and wants to teach you how to become creative too, so you can see the beauty of life, but he doesn't believe that you'll be able to bring life back to Volcano Town.

Nana
Max's wife.

Neo
Neo's another scientist. He's also the weatherman on television! He lives in the lighthouse. Science is his passion; he's devoted his life to it.

Sharon
Sharon's the art teacher at Volcano School. She's very pretty.

Simon Branch
This is Marcia's friend. His family runs the Branch Farm.

Vanessa Branch
Vanessa's another teacher at the school. Not much else is known about her yet.

Vita
She's Dr. Hope's maid. They live in the same house.

Animals

Here's information about the different animals you can have at your farm in Innocent Life.
In order to get the animals, you must first get 4 blue jewels (See the Jewels section). After placing the four jewels on your ranch, the blue door's seal will be opened. You can then open the doors inside your storage room, which will lead you to all your animals.

Chickens
Your chickens will probably be the first animal you get; if you've played other Harvest Moon games, you're probably familiar with this already. After talking to Jonathan, you can order chickens from the "World Ranch" channel on your television. Your chickens will then be found in the right door to your storage room.
Unlike other games, you don't actually need to feed your chickens. You can put them outside, and they'll feed themselves---or you can put them inside, and your Chuck-O-Matic will do everything for you automatically.
Giving Birth:
Like other games, you can put any of your chickens' eggs inside the incubator to make them hatch. It will take 4 days for them to hatch.
Produce:
Your barn actually comes already equipped with a Mayonnaise Maker, lucky for you. It's besides where the eggs are located. Put the eggs into this machine to make mayonnaise, which will then sell for a higher price than the eggs.

Unlike in other HM games, you may only get a sheep after you have gotten at least 1 chicken. Then you need to talk to Jonathan, and you'll be able to order cows from the "World Ranch" channel on your television. Their barn is inside the left door in your storage room.
You can put your sheep inside or outside. Whichever one you choose, however, you don't actually need to feed them. The Baabaa-Matic will do it all for you. On each Friday, you can cut your sheeps' wool and sell it.

Events

Here"s a description of the different types of events that you can get.

Normal Events

These are just normal events that happen in the game with various characters.
Event 1
Date: 1st of Summer
Max will be waiting in your room this morning to tell you that they"ve finished repairing the broken bridge on the southwest bank of East Lake. They also made a little raft, so you can cross more easily from Easter Ruins.

Maintenance Events

On Sundays, Dr. Hope will see you to check your body condition and how you"re doing. This"ll trigger several events, as listed below.
Event 1
Date: 7th of Spring
Nothing special really happens. Moonlight brings a battlebot to Dr.Hope to be repaired and modified.
Event 2
Date: 14th of Spring
Marlene will send to you 3 seed bags and basket for your farm. They want you to ship some other crops than turnips and potatoes for the Spring Festival.
Event 3
Date: 21st of Spring
Dr. Hope will give you an important key, handed down for generations in the Grain family. This is the key for the South Hearthflame cave.
Event 4
Date: 28th of Spring
Everything"s fine; Marcia will send you to the Spring festival after check-up.
Event 5
Date: 35th of Spring
Dr. Hope finally finished repairing the battlebot, and he"s modified it to help you on the farm! This is where you"ll receive the robot.
Event 6
Date: 7th of Summer
After maintenance, the major wants to meet Professor Hope to talk about private issues, so they go inside a room and talk. Meanwhile, Marlene comes and brings you to the kitchen for some cookies to eat. While passing the room, you can hear the mayor"s voice. He"s complaining to Professor Hope because he repaired a helper"s robot before application approval---and did the same with you, too.
The request was actually accepted; the robot just can"t leave the farm. This is when Marlene discovers that you"re a robot, and that Professor Hope"s dream in creating you, an innocent and pure life form, was that you could learn to love people---not hate them.
Marlene accepts you as who you are. For the first time, you realize your own true nature.
Event 7
Date: 14th of Summer
Gayak"s dog had puppies! He will give you one the next day. This is where you get your dog.
Event 8
Date: 21th of Summer
Masami comes in to tell you that she hear the volcano is really going to erupt, and that the Banks corporation is finally going to start construction.
There are three spirits on the island: water, forest, and fire. The volcano is erupting because the Fire Spirit has been angered, and only the Water Spirit can stop it. Masami will now give you a red jewel.
Event 9
Date: 28th of Summer
Some accident happened regarding Marco"s construction site; a coolant apparently leaked into the cave, spreading fumes everywhere.
Event 10
Date: 35th of Summer
Professor Hope"s cat is pregnant. Other than that, nothing much else happens here.
Event 11
Date: 7th of Autumn
Professor Hope will give you a kitten here. Unfortunately, however, his cat has also died. Marcia comes and you guys go to her grave together. Marcia mourns, and even cries, but you just can"t seem to understand. All you can do is look at Marcia; as a result, she gets angry and leaves. It is then that you first learn what sadness is.
Event 12
Date: 14th of Autumn
Not much happens here. The Mushroom Contest is coming soon. Professor Hope also asks you to gather some plain ores for him so he can upgrade your robot.
Event 13
Date: 21st of Autumn
The Mushroom Contest is next week. Unfortunately, Professor Hope can"t go. He"s too old---and can"t be repaired like you can!

Special Events

These are special events---obviously more significant than the other ones.
Talking to the Hermit
After you talk to the hermit, she"ll remove the fallen tree west of the hot springs for you.
Breaking the Blue Jewel Seal
You"ll find Professor Hope in front of your door with a little buggy that you can travel around with, as well as letter. Head North, past the desert, past the plains, and see the old woman who lives in a shack by Mermaid Lake. She"ll tell you more about the water spirit who watches over the island.
After the blue jewel seal is broken, the sandstorms in the desert will have stopped

Jewels

Jewels are hidden many places on the island. There's 4 of each. You have to find them to help you in your farming and to break seals.
There are [?] different colors, and each of them has different effect. To activate them, put them on the altars---one on each corner–to make a square. The next day, the seal will be broken!
You can open mysterious doors of the color of which you broke the seal.
Effects
Here are the different effects of the various jewels.
